Portable 1.0.1-1.0.3 shown as trojan

spartanx86 - November 4, 2009 - 10:34am

Mcafee is picking up vlc (all the *.dll files) as gnuCompiler trojans.

I tried 1.0.1 and 1.0.3. Currently i'm using 0.9.8a with no issues.

VLC Trojan

I too am getting the same error message - is this a false positive?

AVG

No problems reported using AVG.

McAfee False Positive

It's a McAfee false positive again. I think I submitted it for review, but McAfee's site is somewhat lacking.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

With McAfee's DAT 5791 virus

With McAfee's DAT 5791 virus signature update (November 3, 2009) all of my dll's in VLC are identified as having a Trojan named GnuCompiler. The McAfee web site says this is a low risk Trojan.

Is McAfee right?

No

It's wrong again. McAfee has semi-regular false-positive issues. It's usually cleared up in a few days by them. You should contact them to get them to fix it.

False positive

Thanks, John. What a hassle. Over 800 files quarantined by McAfee (counting those in the Windows Restore sub-directories).
