Can't rebuild index on USB Flash

I'm using Thunderbird on my USB Flash drive
When I press rebuild index I loose all messages in folder
the same thing when I delete msf file

But if I copy Thunderbird on hard drive rebuild index works fine

What can be wrong?

I use Thunderbird portable 2.0.0.23 / WinXP
