Racer - The Real Deal. -- http://racer.nl/
This is an amazingly realistic open source racing game. I would suggest making the latest beta version portable instead, since the latest "stable" version is from 2003. I'm not quite sure if it retains settings between computers, but I'm inquiring here to see if someone can work it out, because this would be awesome if this could be portable.
Thanks!
I had a look atthe screenshots and they look fantastic!
Unfortunately it isnt open source but I hope it finds its way here nevertheless.

Now that freeware debuted, I think that this would be an excellent addition to the site.

Can you post this in a new thread under the beta testing forum? Here is the Development Test - Forum Posting Layout.
Good luck with testing

I've tried the installer, and it throws an error whenever I open this. Could someone please link to the beta testing thread, because I can't find it...
I would think that the beta testing thread would show up on
https://portableapps.com/development/test
but, there is no entry for "Racer" there.
Because I do not intend to run the Racer portably, I have 'installed' it onto my laptop's hard drive, into X:\PortableApps\(Racer053b5). I use brackets in the folder names for "portable" apps that do not come from PortableApps.com -- it's an easy way to distinguish unofficial apps from the offical PA apps. For those unfamiliar with Racer, some usage tips and Highly-recommended Car and Track 'add-ons'.
Basics of using Racer ( http://www.racer.nl ):
- some cars require you to press the 'S' key on the key board to Start the engine
- Accelerate by moving the mouse toward the top of the screen (gas peddle); toward the bottom of the screen to brake
- steer with the mouse or trackpad
- Shift gears up and down with the left and right mouse buttons
- If you get into trouble, CTRL-F [F for Fix] puts the car back onto the track
- change the Driving view with '1', '2', '3',...'0' on keyboard
- change the Camera view by 'C' on keyboard
- If I've done good, after the racer (I usually do only 2 laps), press 'F2' key and sit back to watch a replay via the Cameraman view
