Version 2.1.12 Dev Test 1 (2009-11-26) Initial release

This uses Java in Common files and if it isn't available, it should fall back to use local java (I hope).
Knows Issues:
-I havent UPXed it yet. Looks like Java apps cant be UPXed
-The recent files dialogue might not work as I haven't implemented drive letter updates for it yet.

I hope you guys like it and many thanks to Patrick for his continued support by hosting all my Dev Tests and for Chris Morgan for his work on the Launcher!

Thanks

Thank you for this. I only just downloaded this the other day but didn't install it because I thought I'd check to see if I could make it portable. I only got as far as extracting the files from the installer! I'll test it out and let you know.

Looks good...

I haven't had a chance to do a regshot but it runs perfectly on windows xp.

cool

Do you use local or portable java?

It would be nice to have someone do a regshot while using local java to verify that its clean Smiling

Thanks! ...but...

Thanks! I was the one who originally requested this, so thanks are due.

Unfortunately the nascent-project site is blocked at work, and my computer is still on the shelf. New power supply should be coming in tomorrow; hopefully the mobo isn't fried. If it's not, I'll test this over the weekend or next week, depending on when I get the computer up and running.

Updated

to the latest version and the latest PAL (Beta 3).

Thanks Chris Morgan for your work on the Launcher!!!

UPX

I think I'd use the category "Office". (I haven't looked to see what you used in the actual package.)

With regards to compression, the JAR files tend to be able to be compressed but they may not work after that. It's worth trying though.

I did

I run it through AppCompactor: it came out as it went in and saved me 0 mb Smiling

I was really interested...

Until I realized that they make you donate to ignore the nags. Really kinda takes away from the whole open source thing Sad.

What

nags?

None.

I think that the GP is complaining about the fact that every time you create a new scene, instead of a blank box, you get some deletable text saying "please donate". They're not really nags at all.

Just found out about StoryBook

I was just about to request a portable version, and I find this. Great work, Thanks!

you are welcome!

Its good if people provide feedback, even if its just one positive line Smiling

After a week of testing

So far this app has been great; it's actually been *more* stable than the desktop build for me. Can't wait for the next dev test. Smiling

cool

Right now there isnt even a local new version out so I guess you'll have to wait a bit longer Smiling
Other than that I tried to update it to the new Launcher but sadly I couldn't get it to work...

PAL?

Do you mean the PortableApps.com Launcher? If so, what couldn't you get working? Is it something I might be able to help with?

File open dialogue

Its the same mentioned here. I tried it with the latest version (PAL RC2) - no luck.
If you want you can drop me an EMail and Ill send it to you as we are hardly together on IRC unfortunately.

Install Error

Stack dump error after install. Platform icons disappeared. Refreshed icons in PA menu and PA menu closed.

PAM Beta 2.0 Beta 5
WIN XP
Java not yet installed either portably or on System.

Regards

EDIT: I didn't realise it needed the Java installed to enable an effective installation. My bad. All good now.

Update to portable version

I use Storybook Portable on my main desktop, and it's asking me to update. Is it going to try to update to another Portable version? It looks like it's the full regular install of 2.1.14.

I'm enjoying using the program. It's been helpful in organizing my novel.

nope

I haven't tried it but I think it would update to a local version. You are better off waiting a couple of days till I updated the portable version Smiling

Wanna use it to develop my novel but...

...The problem is that whenever I try to click the "Open" option, both the shortcut icon and the one in File menu, it fails to open up the browser window... so I can't open up any previous works I've made... =/

Is it just me or are others experiencing the same thing? Got portable java installed too, and I've tried it on both my comp and another comp, and it still doesn't work. Any chance you could help me out here Simeon?

All that happens is the app freezes for a moment like it always does (even on the original) but then it does nothing after the freeze (not like the original). That's as much as I can tell you at the moment...

hm

Looks like the same problem I had here when trying to get the new launcher working.
But it always worked for me with the current version (2.1.13). Let me have another look.

Use 2.0

Your release notes indicate you're using 2.0 Beta 3; one at least of the issues you had then was fixed between Beta 3 and 2.0 final. I'd suggest that first of all try it with PAL 2.0, then if that's not working, try removing the user.home setting; beyond that, release another version of it and I'll play around with it and see if I can figure out what's happening.

I've tried playing around with it but...

...no success. I do have the lastest of both portable java, your dev test, actual java, and have the same version storybook as the portable one on my comp... I'll try installing the app again on another comp and see if that works...

Thank you for the effort. Is

Thank you for the effort. Smiling

Is still in beta? You can make a stable version, perhaps with 2.1.15? Smiling :)

Thanks again
