“A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.” – Proverbs 15:1
not a "heads up there is a new version post." I had issues with 1.0. The issues I had with 1.0 were corrected in 1.0.1 (PDFs automatically shutting down being one of them). It was a heads up that some or all of the previous bugs reported may have been fixed.
If it was to let the developers know there was a new version then yes, that's a no-no. However, if it was to let the community know as a sort of public service (which seems to be the intent here), then I don't see what the problem is.

"New version" post
Regardless of whether it's had bugs fixed, it is a "there's a new version out" post.
