HP Pavilion Busted :(

In case you haven't noticed, I
haven't been on for about a week.
Why? My brother screwed up our
Computer. >_<

If anybody knows something about
my situation then please help Smiling

It's an HP Pavilion with 2 GB RAM
and a 500 GB Hard Drive. It had
Windows 7 RC and Vista installed. Sad

So, one day, when I came home from
school, I turned on the computer
(tthat's it, no moniter or speakers
or even mouse) and ran upstairs to
wait for it to boot up.

Unfortunately my brother popped up
and jammed his butt on the chair
(probably to play on Neopets or
something) :/ and turned on the
moniter.

Apparently claims that the computer
froze on the windows dual boot
(Vista/7RC) screen. So he
manually shut it down with the 8
second thing.

Next thing I know the computer's
busted Sad

Now when we turn it on, the power
button lights up for half a second,
then turns off like I never turned it
on. After 3 seconds it lights back up
with a continuous sequence of 3
second beeps, 1 second silence
(light doesn't shut off), 3 second
beeping, and so on and so on.

Googled sites say long beeping
means something's wrong with the
RAM Sad

I can't even figure out how to open
up the dumb thing to even check the
RAM Sad

BTW, nothing shows up on the
moniter, so it's not an OS problem.
The screen that specifies what key
to press for the Boot Menu and BIOS
doesn't show up either Sad

Also, the moniter just goes to sleep
mode when I turn the computer on.
It says "No Signal" when I yank out
the HDMI cable, so a signal is getting
through.

So, any HP maniacs lurking the
forums? Sticking out tongue

Look here to find out how to open it and remove all but one ram stick and try that?

Screws

Should be some case screws on the back that, once removed, will let you slide the top and sides of the computer off the chassis, which the front is stuck to. That's just general advice, should work for a lot of storebought computers (e.g. HP).

With the case open, assuming you can reach both the power supply and the mobo, turn off the switch in the back by where it plugs in but do not unplug it. Without moving, touch the power supply. This grounds you. You move, touch the PSU again before touching anything else.

The RAM sticks have locks on either end, push them down to unlock the stick. Pull the RAM stick straight out. Put it in a static bag if you can find one, if not, wrap it in a paper towel (it's not a conductor at least) and drop it in a ziploc bag. Take it to a computer shop, they should be able to tell you what kind of RAM it is. Buy more (preferably on Newegg.com, they're the cheapest) and see if it works. Assuming it is a RAM problem. A POST problem like that can mean CPU, GPU, RAM, or mobo, I think.

You can always take the whole computer to a shop.

I have two Corsair 512MB DDR PC3200 sticks I'm not using. Real nice with heat spreaders and activity lights. Wasn't looking to get rid of them so fast, but I'm sure I can't get much (if anything) for them online. I think they're 184-pin DIMMs but I'm not sure. If they can help you, maybe we can work something out. (Shipping plus the cost of a cheap lunch perhaps?)

Line breaks

Does him writing this on a (smart)phone explain all the line breaks? (Maybe a mod can clean that up a bit?)
