Invalid page fault in Win98SE And Solutionhobbyscripter - July 10, 2006 - 2:55am
Hi, But later, i found out that this error doesn't occur if i turn "DisableSplashScreen" to "true". After a little try, i know that it may caused by the "PNG Format". i found out that if the format of the splash image is PNG, then it would cause "invalid page fault" in Windows 98 SE. But if the format of the splash image is BMP, it works fine. i hope the future release of Portable Firefox Launcher would use BMP as the splash image format. In that way, Portable Firefox won't got "invalid page fault" from some version of Windows 98 SE. Regards, hobbyscripter PS. ----- ( categories: )

It Isn't PNG
The splash is in JPG format and the current version of the launcher, 1.1.4.1, has been verified to work correctly on Windows 95, 98, 98SE, Me, 2000, XP and Vista. I just downloaded PFF 1.5.0.3 and fired it up in Win95 and Win98SE to be sure and it worked as expected. Is there something else up on this box that may be causing the issue? Offhand, I would suspect the video driver.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

i think it may cause by some dynamic library that newadvsplash.dll work with. Maybe different version of Windows provide different library. So it may cause some error in some version of Windows and works fine in others.
Note:
my test machine is VMWARE WORKSTATION 5.0.0 build-13124
Video Card: VMWare SVGA II
Provider: VMWare, Inc.
Version: 10.7
Also VMWare
I'm also on VMWare... but version 5.5.1 build 19175. I've always tested on VMWare. And tested every Windows version (95, 98, 98SE, ME, 2000, XP). Is it possible you've installed something else that may be conflicting? Like I said, it even works in Win95 on VMWare, so it's something specific to your setup.

You are right

You are right. i tried to install Windows 98 SE to another virtual machine. This time "Portable Firefox Launcher" works fine. i've tried to install the software that may cause the problem in the new machine. But "Portable Firefox Launcher" still works fine this time. Now i don't have any idea on it. Maybe my first test machine is only a strange one. Sorry to bother you.
