Mnemosyne (recently update to 2.0) is a "flash-card" type softare for learning and remembering things based on scientific research. Foreign words, professional terminology, world history, sequences (such as the presidents), anatomy - really anything that can be presented in a question/answer type format.

The "Education" section of Portableapps is "a bit thin", so I definitely think this would be a great addition, particularly because it is so generic!
