notepad++ not opening multiple files when multi-selecting using windows explorer

tolland - April 22, 2010 - 8:17am

Hi,

I have updated to the current version of portableapps and notepad++ portable.

The problem is that if I select (using shift or ctrl) multiple files in windows explorer and then use the "open with->notepad++ portable" menu option, only 1 file is opened.

If I use a standalone installed version of notepad++ this seems to work ok and all the selected files are opened. any suggestions?

Cheers,
T

Notepad++ only supports

Notepad++ only supports opening one file at a time from the command line. Notepad++ uses a shell extension for its context menu (overkill if you ask me) which uses its own proprietary method of passing filenames into Notepad++. It's probably possible to duplicate it using Notepad++ Portable but that hasn't happened yet, and would be very difficult with little payoff.

As long as you're installing shortcuts to Notepad++ Portable locally, install Notepad++ itself for tighter OS integration. I know from experience it installs on limited user accounts, at least in XP, if that's your problem.

Signature automatically removed for being too awesome.
