PortableAppsThemes

Hello one hello all. I have been using PortableApps.com's Menu for a while now and I really like it. However, I have always been itching to change the skin. I searched all over the internet for how to do it, and frankly, it's not that hard, but it is anoying. So, I have come up with a new program that I created myself. It's called "PortableAppsThemes" I have scripted this program out of .bat code, because I really don't know anything else besides html. I think it's pretty good for a 14 year old, but then again many people like to use age as an excuse for crap. If you are intrerested in testing this program, please reply below. The Beta is fully funtional and is in PAF format. I would provide a download link however I am very scared of leechers. DoS code is very easy to understand, code and frankly exploit. I have provided themes that I have found while scouring the internet that are in the format i'd like them to be in. I would have them posted but I have a problem:

John T. Haller(O shiz did I spellz thts rite?... wuteva. -_-")
I have seen your PortableAppsInstaller Program and all other paf. installers. I have only one question to ask:"How can you make the installer see the drive letter in which portableapps is on?!!" I have been killing my braincells and probably wasting my time trying to find the answer. In know that this is probably amature stuff, and I did find the code to your paf. installer, but i'm too code illiterate to understand where the drive letter portion comes in.

Well, at the end of the day, when all is said an done... it works.

There are a few functions that are not functional completely at the moment:

Directory:
You can only see your files, you can't delete them. (should be an easy fix)

Download:
For some reason, when this program opens up my website for the themes, it kills itself. Idk why.

Check:
Looks like shiz... That's really it.

Set:
Can't kill portableapps.com menu, therefore it cannot refresh the menu so you can see your new theme.

If you are either:
1. Willing to try the program. I can't possibly mess up your computer. Maybe your flash drive... but not the computer!!!

2. Have some sort of solution to any of the above problems. Of course, me not posting my code doesn't help, so if you think you know i'll send you some code.

Please contact me at Starport592@gmail.com or reply in a comment below.

I will leave a download link for the people who contact me.

shoot

you beat me to it.

But I was writing on in NSIS rather than batch...

And whats that link at the bottom for? "PortableAppsThemes Beta 1"? It just says that you or mediafire deleted the program.

If your going to leave a download link for people who contact you, why provide the pointless link under that?

And why don't you use a Batch-2-EXE converter? That way, it will be (harder) for others to see the source.

But then again, PortableApps.com is an open source community, so you shouldn't be afraid others will take it--there have been a ton of rip-offs from PA.c and not very many have a use for something intended for a program they didn't make.

Yeah, sorry.

Well, you should still work on your program. Yours is writtin in NSIS, so it'll probably be better. Also, sorry about the download link. I was posting it when my compoter took a shiz on me. I'll re-upload ASAP. Also, I already converted to exe, way before, and if you want to view it there is a password. I'm still very paranoid. Please don't distribute or tell pass PLZZZ.

Thanks,

nah

don't worry about it. I guess when you release any app, you have to be aware of pirating, reverse engineering, or anything else that can happen. Just google "portable software" or "portable apps" and you'll find dozens of rip-offs from PortableApps.com as well as many illegal projects. If your really that scared, get a EULA and put it into the installer. Or just don't release it at all Blum

Ehh.

Well the problem is that when people expliot programs they usually are well-known, so everybody wants to have it, however, my program is young, it hasn't seen the light of day, and I want people to regocnise it. I don't care if someone makes thier own piece of crap after this, I just want to keep what credit I earned making this thing. By the way, the link should work now.

Thanks

Thanks. If you need the pass then I'll give it to you but i'm pretty sure there's a way around the exe thing to view the source and you seem to know it so yeah. Just gimmie a shout if you need anything.

The theming system is still being developed

The current 2.0 has a more advanced theming system, and John plans to add a more sophisticated theme selector with its own window in beta 6.

That's GREAT!!!

That's WONDERFUL!!!! John is a smart person, I should have figured that sooner or later he'd do something like this. However, now all of my previous efforts are wasted. Oh well. It's not that hard to tear down too.

Never wasted!

I'm sure you got a lot of great experience coding your app. And to do all that at 14 is pretty dang good.
Also, you never know, John may get ideas from your app, to enhance the upcoming improvements. That's the beauty of a sharing environment like this, everybody learns from everyone else, and some great ideas can come out of any app.
Plus, it's great to see someone who's willing to roll up his sleeves and get to work!

Well. it's been a while since I...

It's been a while since I posted anythign on this thread, and since my program is dead, my website is still alive. John T. Haller has created the option to create your very own themes, and the PAM Maker is absolutely wonderful for createing these. Therefore, the site is now devoted to PortableAppsThemes (*.pathemes) and is open to everybody. For those still using PAM 1.6.1 there are some compatable themes availible but they only work with my crappy program. It shouldn't be to hard to figure out tho. I'll post a tutorial. I'll be creating a new thread shortly.
