@JTH: Licensing and use of theme graphics questions

I'm developing the PAM Theme Builder, which users can use to create themes specific to the Portable Apps Menu.
In order for it to best work for users, I need to include the PNG files from the default theme - the chrome files, the buttons, and the menu icons, etc.
I'm not including the PortableApps.com logo, because I figured that you definitely wouldn't want that - instead, I made my own logo that has the same silhouette.

I have a new beta release ready which has all the features I'd planned, and will be put into the official format, but before I post it:

Is it OK for me to include the graphics from the default theme?
If so, what do I need to include in the way of licensing, credits, etc?
Do you have a standard wording that I should include?

My last beta version is available at https://portableapps.com/node/25260 if you want an idea of what I've done.

Thanks,
Solanus

Permission

The theme files in the PortableApps.com Platform are not open source and are considered trade dress of PortableApps.com. If you'd like to make PAM Theme Builder an official PA.c app, you can actually use both the theme files and the PA.c logo, though.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Thanks for the quick reply!

I definitely want to make this an official PA.c app.
Shall I credit the graphics files to PortableApps.com and Rare Ideas in my About screen? How about in a license file?

I made this half-pony, half-monkey monster to please you.

Yeah

Yeah, you can license the app itself under GPL as with the PA.c Platform (since I'm guessing you based it on that Delphi code). This should be added:

"This package contains trademarks of Rare Ideas, LLC including, but not limited to, the name "PortableApps.com Menu", logos, icons, and trade dress (themes). Rare Ideas, LLC does not express or imply any permission to use or distribute these trademarks. The graphics themes may only be used with permission."

If you use the other icons in the theme, you should also add: "This package contains icons or portions of icons copyrighted by the Oxygen and licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike license (included below). The icons also contain elements copyrighted by Rare Ideas, LLC and licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike license."

OK, done

I've posted a completed version for beta testing.
I think I've dotted all my teas and crossed my eyes Smile
I haven't used any Oxygen icons, but if I do, I'll distribute a license txt in the theme package.

I'm looking forward to the next release of the platform, and I'll be sure to modify my app to comply with any changes you make to the theming system.

BTW, I used this project as a way to learn OpenPascal and Lazarus, so only a few parts of the platform code were used to make this. I'm sure there are lots of opportunities to clean up my code, but it's not too bad for my first compiled app.

Thanks again, John!
