dear god i remember this

BUT here are the limitations. first its portable by default as i have it on my floppy which i have made several copies (DONT COPY THAT FLOPPY). Second its a 16bit DOS binary. it works fine in Dos Based window. it works fine in Dosbox. It barely works in XP. it will not work in Vista or 7 or any OS that is 64 bit and has no 16bit backwards compatability. its just like the old Ski Free. It was 16bit so when XP came out it would not work (well) and refused to work on vista and above.

These are just the first limitations. second limitation is the program is illegal. it violates Nintendo's trademarks and was removed from most of the legitimate sites it was hosted on. we will NOT host it due to the legal ramifications of takeing on Nintendo in a Trademark lawsuit.

Lastly and most importiantly there is no sourcecode for it. if you are talking about the same game i am thinking of then it will not be done.

Trademark issues are tough and even though it may be freeware and if we where to get permission by the owner of the source code we cannot host it due to possible lawsuits witn nintendo.

Do you have a link to the site? Is it open source/freeware?

I'd probably still recommend

I'd probably still recommend not touching it.

The games may be free, and potentially may be licensed as freeware (can't actually find any info on the site, and not going to download one to see if there is a license agreement included), but you will generally find that anything called a "Fan game" is just a way of saying "I break numerous copyright laws, but please don't hurt me, I'm just a little guy, and I'm not making money off it".

Fan games are like VCR's, PVR's, or TV capture cards, in a lot of countries it has always been illegal to record television to a recorded medium, but nobody bothers to chase down people that do it. However, that doesn't mean it is actually legal.

Also as i stated in my original post

There is the possiblility of Trademark infringment with Nintendo. hence why it would never be hosted here. Nintendo is very protective of their properties perticularly if its a 25 year old plumber with a princess saving ego.
