Little Registry Cleaner

Program: Little Registry Cleaner

License: Open Source/GPL

Description: Little Registry Cleaner is an open source program that is designed to cleanup Microsoft Windows Registry. It removes obsolete or unwanted items that build up in the registry over time in order to improve the stability and performance of your computer.

Website: http://www.littleapps.co.cc/lilregcleaner/index.html

Other: Haven't installed it yet, but I'm thinking this would be incredibly useful for techs to use for working on computers. Download is from SourceForge, downloads an installer but since it's OS, should be easy to create a PortableApp for it (I hope). Description is taken directly from website.

.NET

Looks like an interesting app. Unfortunately, it's C#/.NET which means it won't go in the main Portable App Directory (since it won't work on most PCs you come across in public as they don't have .NET). But we'll be adding a .NET section soon, so I think somebody would be interested in it.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

I looked at it

and I have to say, Little Registry Cleaner is a Little Pain in the Butt.

It saves data in "%LOCALAPPDATA%\Little_Apps_(http___www.l\Little_Registry_Cleaner.e_Url_vsg3pjdl2eleybr1ypr4ozxakpxedstc"

Yep.

You see Little_Registry_Cleaner.e_Url_vsg3pjdl2eleybr1ypr4ozxakpxedstc? That "_vsg3pjdl2eleybr1ypr4ozxakpxedstc" part of it is random, and each time it's created, it changes.

I never done nothing like this before, but I guess there is a first for everything. Biggrin

Launcher?

There is a portable version of this program already available for download (http://bit.ly/8LpZs8) but it is not in the PortableApps.com Format. Perhaps someone could simply create a Launcher for the program.

Also to note... the author of the aforementioned app has also created these programs:
Little Disk Cleaner (http://bit.ly/hnEV41)
Little Registry Optimizer (http://bit.ly/bfe4CT)

Doubt it

One thing I've learned while looking for and making portable apps is that people just take the installed files and zip them up, take them on another computer, run it, and if it works, it's "portable". Even if it leaves registry keys, files, and other stuff behind, it doesn't matter because it works, and thus, to them, it's "portable".

Not so.

I've rarely seen portable "portable" apps out there that were not originally designed to be portable (like the Little Apps).

My guess is that the guys who made the "portable" versions above did just that.

So yeah.

Thanks for looking, though.

With Windows 7, most all apps

With Windows 7, most all apps now create files and registry entries, even if they are in the PortableApps.com Format. I've seen it in the ProgramData folder as well as the AppData folder.

Normal PA.c Behavior

That is the way they work. They don't modify the program itself, they simply allow the program to do what it expects to do i.e. create registry entries or files in system locations and then the launcher cleans up after the program, backing up those settings/files and restoring them next time you use the application. It's the simplest way to run a program "portably" without getting hooks into the operating system.
