Mark as read

So I suck with the search thing we have on this site so sorry if this has been requested but can we please have a "Mark as read" link to mark all the forum topics as read? It's hard to memorize all these numbers for each forum to see if there is a new post.

Yeah, I requested this a while ago. Twice, actually. I'm guessing Drupal doesn't support it natively, and John doesn't like hacking features in that aren't already there.

Yeah, but if you don't at least load all of the new/updated threads, they stay marked as unread. He wants a way to mark all threads as read, even if he doesn't read them. The tracker doesn't help with that.

I know, but

he says he has to remember all the numbers, of the forums presumably. Instead he could use the tracker.
This is hurting my head...

Well, I used to have to

Well, I used to have to remember the number of "new posts" for each forum and then see if the number changed next time I came on. I'll give the tracker a try.

I too would like it

I posted this same request awhile ago. I dislike having to open/read threads I'm not interested in. Other types of forum software do provide the ability to mark all as read. If Drupal doesn't, then it should.

The tracker is interesting and may be an acceptable workaround. Threads I'm not interested in would sink out of site (if not active). It would be nice to know, though, which forum each thread is in.

Book page "new"

The Support Links like https://portableapps.com/support/miranda_portable under the forums are still showing as "new" topics even after they are read.

Yeh

I think it's an error with the book module.

Summarizing

There is currently no way to do Mark All Read or Mark Forum Read within Drupal. The function simply doesn't exist. There is module that only works on an older version of Drupal called MarkAsRead that had issues on the old version and doesn't work at all on the new one. There are some possible patches to the core modules that might add this functionality that are completely untested. So, as much as we'd all like this functionality, at the moment, it's a dead issue. There's no point discussing it further unless someone has an actual working solution.

And the reason some of the book stuff shows up as new in the tracker and then doesn't get marked read is that the support pages linked within the book hierarchy never get viewed. The server internally redirects them to the actual support page (a standard page). They are added so the support link appears in the book hierarchy.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
