Sunbird finished ?

Is Sunbird finished for good ?. I see at the web site it says this is the last public release and they recommend upgrading to Thunderbird and Lightning, but I prefer to have "just" a simple, easy, quick, local calendar, I don't even really use Thunderbird.

Dead

Yes, Sunbird is now a dead project. All development work after the Beta 1 release is now going into Lightning. A calendar solo isn't terribly useful. And the address book is part of Thunderbird, so it made sense to work it there. At some point in the future I think it will be pre-bundled or 'built in' to Thunderbird.

Very useful alone

Bummer, I use it to see and keep track of all my kids school schedules, after school activities, what my family might have planned and my kids chores and things like this, I find it extremely useful ):, I can view it or edit it when ever where ever and best of all I print it out. Smile And with all the problems and all the bugs with Thunder bird ( and others of course) with emails from gmail, hotmail etc.

Thunderbird + Lightning

You don't need to use TB for email. You can install Lightning and just use the calendar, task manager and address book if you'd like.

As someone who uses Thunderbird+Lightning every day for critical tasks across a dozen email accounts, I'm unfamiliar with 'all the bugs with Thunderbird' you're referring to.

TB bugs?

I also don't have any bugs or issues with Thunderbird, and I use it for 8 different accounts, which are a mix of POP and IMAP accounts. I think maybe a while ago I may have heard of some IMAP issues, but they were resolved.

Sunbird finished but not gone?!?

Okay, so it's a dead project, is it? ARGH!!! Okay, I'm fine; just needed a li'l venting.

Related: Is there a (fool-proof/non-buggy) way to import to Lightning and/or export from Sunbird??? I have a total of 12 (yes, twelve) different (color-coded) calendars that I use on a daily basis...please tell me I can export them to Lightning (or Thunderbird, or whatever) and/or import them into same!?!

Cheers, all!!!

Lol venting ):

I see you like it too. Smile In that link from winterblood the forum says, (The safer way would be to export each calendar in iCalendar format and save as .ics file. In Lightning create new calendars and import the .ics files) Which I believe IS in fact the best way, it's more universally used, I think you can import to most any calendar including yahoo, google, hotmail and all those.

There is a non-buggy way

It takes a little bit of effort on your part, but not too much.
You can export individual calendars from Sunbird as iCalendar files (*.ics).
You can import the tasks from these .ics files to specific calendars in Lightning.
You need to do a little prep work to make sure that the calendars remain separate.

1. In Lightning, create Calendars with the same names and colors as the ones in Sunbird (File>New>Calendar).
2. In Sunbird, Export each calendar as an .ics file (File>Export Calendar). The files will be named with the same names as your calendars. You need to export each calendar separately, you can't export them all at once. Save them in a convenient place so you can find them in the next step.
3. In Lightning, Import each .ics file one by one (Events and Tasks>Import). You have to select the calendar to import into - that's why we made them in step 1 - but since the .ics file and the calendar name are the same, it's easy peasy.

When you are done, you should have all the info in Lightning.
Good Luck.

Useful simple application

We have started useing Sunbird at work to track upcoming weddings/birthdays/parties etc. for the hotel.

It's nice and simple, using Thunderbird/Lightning is a bit overkill.
