Home Page New Look

Don't much like the rearrangement of the PortableApps home page. Having to scroll down to skip past the pitch to get to the latest apps (and having much less space devoted to them) is a pain.

It's about the apps.

I will link to the "All News" page instead.

I understand the new look, but ...

I don't like it. The value of the home page was always being to instantly see a useful new release list. It's buried now and way too short. If I don't load the home page every few hours, or if a release day has several items I will have to hunt for new releases.

No, I do not like, but I understand.

Check the News page

In order to see an even more useful new release list, try checking the News page directly: https://portableapps.com/news

If you're looking for only brand new apps being released by PortableApps.com for the first time, you can check the New App list: https://portableapps.com/news/new

If that's what you're using the homepage for now, you'd be better off going directly there.

You could always use the RSS

You could always use the RSS feed instead.

I generally come to the site for the forums, and use a combination of the RSS feed and the updater to find out when new/updated apps are available.

Regarding the home page, I think it is much more professional looking and works quite well. The only thing I don't like about it is the LibreOffice icon looks out of focus when all the others are sharp.

Target audience; other ways

The target of the front page is more new people. Existing users can go to the news page or track the RSS feed if they care about what new releases there are. Also, with the Updater in the new Platform, if you just care about releases, you can check for them without even checking your browser.

recommending portableapps

The new home page doesn't present the extent of abailable apps like the old desing.

I know it won't change back to the useful version. I'd like to continue directing people
to portableapps.com withput having to add explanations aboiut how to find what's available.
It's supposed to be about the apps, isn't it?

Just saying ...

For an existing user, yes, it

For an existing user, yes, it is more about the apps. But, existing users know, or know how to find out, where to look for what they want.

The target audience for the home page however is new users as Chris said above, for which the platform is the main push.

Recommending PortableApps.com

The point of the homepage IS for new users. And a new user needs to know what the heck this is. The list of updated apps was a horrible way for new users to see the breadth of apps since it only shows a handful of recently updated ones. The best way for them to find out is the Applications page, which shows all our apps. We'll be highlighting that more on the homepage shortly.

If you want to monitor new releases, the All News page is for that. And it's got a really easy URL to type in directly: portableapps.com/news. That's by design. It'll be getting app icons soon, too.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

All News

That's what the 'all news' page is for. And it will soon be getting app icons as well to make it even easier to skim over and look at.

I personally like the new

I personally like the new homepage. It makes it very obvious what portableapps.com is all about.

It amazes me that on the internet you can be anything you want, and yet so many people still choose to be idiots.

Guess some just don't like change?

I agree it's an improvement ... which highlights the platform 2.0 PR & shows clearly what PA is all about

I like the new one, too!

IMHO I think the new Home page is more attractive, fresher-looking, less cluttered & more professional than the old one. The old one could be intimidating for new users since it looked more "geeky." The new one is inviting/exciting & says "come check out all the good things we have here" - just the sort of message you want new users to get!

Face it...the reality is that existing users will keep coming back regardless of what the Home page looks like (although they may complain about it) but new users likely will not stay or come back if they find the Home page too overwhelming.

Don't like the heart

I'm not feelin the heart to say "free." Everything else is nice, though.
