Gaim 2.0 Beta 3.1 trouble with Off The Record Plugin

buymeapc - September 7, 2006 - 4:14pm

I can't seem to load the 'Off The Record' plugin in the new Gaim 2.0Beta 3.1 version...it doesn't appear in the list.

Is anyone else having this issue?

Correct Install

Did you install it correctly using the new version linked to on the page? The released one from the OTR website does NOT work with 2.0 b3.1. You need to use the one I link to from the support page and project page. gaim-otr.dll should wind up in your GaimPortable\App\gaim\plugins directory. And then it'll appear in the list.

Yes, I used the version from

Yes, I used the version from the home page news headline.

BUT! Thanks for adding the pathing in your response. I placed the plugin in the GaimPortable\App\gaim directory like the Portable Gaim homepage shows. I moved it to the plugins folder and I can now use the plugin.

Thanks, John!Laughing out loud

Instructions

The Instructions don't say to put it in the plugins directory. I did the same thing and it didn't show up, then put the dll in the plugins directory and it appeared. So, you will need to update the instructions on the main page on installing OTR.

"For Gaim Portable, extract it to your GaimPortable\App\gaim directory."
Should be:
"For Gaim Portable, extract it to your GaimPortable\App\gaim\plugins directory."

Reread

It says extract to. There is a plugin directory INSIDE both the self-extractor and the ZIP file. It automatically places it in the correct place if you extract the whole zip where I indicated.

Now, if you got all fancy and decided to open the zip and then open that directoy within it in your zip client and just drag the file out, is that my fault? Smiling

Incidentally, I updated the instructions to indicate this.

Maybe not

Add an excerpt for both ways

This is why

I'm tempted to ONLY do self-extractors. With Zip, there are too many variables.

Oh well, sorry for being

Oh well, sorry for being fancy... Eye-wink

Thanks for the help, John. I love the work you've done. Laughing out loud

Plugin?

Is there a plugin for Voice and video?

No

No, there is not. Only the closed source single-network clients support this at the moment. And they're not portable.

Gaim-vv, a fork does support voice & video

Gaim-vv, a fork of the Gaim project does support voice and video, but I don't know how well. Development of this project is now officially dead, but all it's features are being intergrated into Gaim.

Eventually

It's not part of the Gaim 2.0 release, which isn't in final release yet. So, it'll be a while. I don't think Gaim-vv will currently work with many of the networks (I know it won't work with MSN at the very least). That's why I didn't mention it.

... but we're REALLY off-topic from the original question at this point, anyway.
