This is nonsense. Please explain yourself.

PortableApps.com never

PortableApps.com never release virus infected apps, Usually stuff becomes infected either through your own PC being infected or (and most generally is) a false positive like Gord pointed out.

Don't just cry wolf about it, take steps to make sure what you are saying is indeed true or not upload it to virustotal (which scans the exe file in question with multiple antivirus scanners) if one or 2 say it's infected while the rest don't then that's classified as a false positive and should be reported to your antivirus provider as such.

Question.

IIRC PA uses an online installer for this? Is that correct?

utorrent website is down atm...

I know of another user (av forum) who had downloaded it from their website and found a fake AV inside...

uTorrent.com Possibly Hacked - UNCONFIRMED

From a few completely unconfirmed reports around the web, it looks like uTorrent's main website, uTorrent.com may have been hacked. The website was offline for a time and no further information is available.

Just to make certain our users are safe, I've released a revision to the latest uTorrent Portable release that will now do the live download of utorrent.exe from our own secured download server. This copy is known clean and confirmed legitimate, scanned with all major antivirus engines. This way, whether you installed or updated in the last 24 hours, whether you downloaded utorrent.exe yourself for uTorrent Portable yourself or not, whether uTorrent within uTorrent Portable updated itself or not, you will be automatically updated to the latest clean, legitimate, scanned release via the PortableApps.com Platform (or manually if you don't use it).

Also, just to confirm, uTorrent Portable itself was not affected, but the uTorrent.exe downloaded from uTorrent.com may have been. Any major antivirus engine will detect this issue and refuse to allow it to run as this malware is years old now. Additionally, there are instructions to manually remove it even if you don't have an antivirus.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Confirmed.

http://blog.bittorrent.com/2011/09/13/security-incident/

It looks as though all is back to how it was before.

Also, just to confirm, uTorrent Portable itself was not affected, but the uTorrent.exe downloaded from uTorrent.com may have been.

That was where I was leading with my previous comment on the online installer.
