you can get the tor browser from the site you mentioned and put it on your stick and it works fine. No need for anything else.
If you place it into portableapps folder, it will show on the apps menu and will work as designed.
The problem with the tor browser is, that it needs maintenance from the tor.org, it contains more then one separate software which has to work together, needs testing, and therefore it is not something someone else should do.
If you use it, go time to time to the torproject.org website, check if there is new version and use it as it is obtained from there. If you start adding extensions, you may make it useless very fast.
TOR is nice thing, but it needs some reading to discover what it does and what not, people often misunderstand the functionality in some way.
