VLC 2.0.0 does not handle cue/wav file pairs

I upgraded to 2.0 and attempted to access a pair of wav/cue files created from a CD. The cue and wav files are, as far as I can determine, to spec, and work fine with 1.1.11. Using 2.0 gets me a screenfull of error messages.

Local

Try the local install of VLC. If it's a base app issue, you need to report it to the publisher. If it's a portable issue, we'll work on it. I've never used a wav/cue pair and don't use CDs anymore, so I can't personally assist.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Post-Local Install Results

The local install of VLC 2.0 from a fresh download worked fine, as did the
re-installed copy of Portable 1.1.11. Updating again to 2.0 Portable with no system changes gave me a bunch of error messages of the form:

File reading failed:
VLC could not open the file "(null)". (%m)
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL '/C:/CdImages/[wav file name].wav'. Check the log for details.

There appeared to be at least one such pair like the above for each and every "track" listed in the .cue file for the partner .wav file. The .wav file itself played just fine, but of course there was no direct way to navigate from cut to cut.

Same problem with cue/flac VLC 2.0.6 portable (base app OK)

I purchased a FLAC down-load from ClassicsOnLine and it came as a single .flac with a .cue file. On opening the .cue (after editing - COL have put the wrong file name in the .cue) the track list appears perfectly, but it is accompanied by a succession of messages for each track (this is the last):-

Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL '/G:/Capture/Sound/ClassicsOnLine/ELLINGTON%20D%20Black%20Brown%20and%20Beige%20Harlem%20Three%20Bla/01 ellington d black brown and beige harlem three.flac'. Check the log for details.

I set the log file to VLCPortableTemp\VLC.log, in the folder created in the Windows TEMP directory, but none is created, nor can I find it elsewhere.

The base app plays fine on opening the .cue, importing all the tracks as a play-list (though this is corrupted after each track is played), but I can still step back and forwards between tracks, whether played or not.
