Actual Folder

You'd have to specify the actual folder. The PortableApps.com folder doesn't increase in size and has nothing to do with browsing. Do you mean a different folder inside the PortableApps folder (note the lack of .com on the end) such as the FirefoxPortable folder? In that case it does download and store its URL safelist which is about 20MB and other stuff could be going on. But, in any case, it's the app itself and nothing we do.

portable apps.com folder'S SIZE increase

let me explain little bit.when i install portable apps.com in my pen drive it creates TWO(2) folder, one is (my document folder) n d other is (Portable Apps folder). The 2nd ones SIZE increases with every session of my browsing(may be tmp files r stored gradually within d folder but when i click on this folder except d original files n sub folders ) i do not view any new files or folders within it, when i click on d properties it shows increase d size of d folders. For e.g. if b4 browsing d folder shows 40MB, after few minutes or hours of browsing i see that its size is increases to 70-80MB OR EVEN MORE n gradually with every session of browsing its size is increased on n on n on N FINALLY WHAT I SEE D FREE SPACE OF OF MY PEN DRIVE IS GRADUALLY DECREASED (THIS IS 3rd TIME I HAVE INSTALLED PORTABLE APPS.COM IN MY PEN DRIVE BUT STILL SAME PROBLEM PERSISTS)& BECAUSE OF THIS I HAVE LEFT WITH NO OTHER OPTION BUT TO REMOVE IT FROM MY PEN DRIVE SO THAT I COULD USE IT FOR AS USUAL PURPOSE RATHER THAN USING IT FOR THE PURPOSE IT IS SO INTENDED.PLZ PROVIDE ME A SOLUTION TO THIS.I FOUND THIS TO BE VERY USEFUL BUT BCOZ OF D PROBLEM I Hv CITED ABOVE M STILL UNABLE TO USE IT TO ITS FULLEST POSSIBLE EXTENT.I M USING IT IN KINGSTONE PEN DRIVE (4GB) & MY OS IS WIN7 64BIT.

Which folder?

There are lots of subfolders inside PortableApps. Find out which specific folder is growing (I'd say it's the Data folder in your portable browser's install) and tell us.

Folder size increase

when installing portable apps.com to my pen drive, there creates two folders,One is, namely,"Documents" Folder & d other is,namely, "portable apps" folder. The "portable apps" Folder increases in size with every session of browsing.Take an Example--- Before sending my earlier comment to this Platform, i checked by right clicking on "portable apps" folder properties n it shows 571 files with 62 Folders & nearly 80 MB in size n now while m sending it to you it shows currently 615 files, 65 folders & 100 MB in size.In d time of initial installation d folder size started with 43 MB n now it reaches to 100MB.If i continue surfing it will reach to 1GB or more in few hours. This is still a mystery for me.Plz solve this.

Still doesn't help

That doesn't help us to help you. We don't know what Portable Applications you have installed. What applications are you using when you notice the size increase? Within the folder structure for those apps, which folders specifically are you noticing increase in size like that?

Inside

Look INSIDE the PortableApps folder and figure out which folder is increasing in size. Likely your FirefoxPortable or GoogleChromePortable folder. In which case you need to ensure your disk cache is disabled.

By Design

A folder of that size is about by design. First, Firefox will need to download and update the URL Classifier which keeps track of dangerous websites and protects you. This is about 50MB and is downloaded on first run. Add that to the 38MB that Firefox Portable already occupies, and you are starting with 88MB without ANY of your own information inside of it. Your profile then grows as you use it as cookies are stored, as you visit websites and they are added to your history, and as you bookmark sites. You'll often wind up with at least a few MB of cookies after a while. Your history could be even larger. Mine is 82MB.

Of course, if a few 10s of MBs are that much of a concern, you can disable different features like history or the URL classifier in options.

It should stabilize

If it is the browser cache it should stabilize, and probably before it reaches anywhere close to 1 GB (depending on how the cache is configured and possibly on how large your drive is).

I'm running Firefox Portable on a 6 GB drive with cache enabled. The size of my Firefox folder fluctuates daily but (once the cache is full) usually runs between 500 and 550 MB. The cache itself is 350-400 MB.

PS. I don't recommend enabling browser cache when running on a bare flash drive. I'm not running on a bare drive so I'm not concerned about performance issues, and I am more concerned about bandwidth usage than drive life so I have it enabled.

mine is 165mb

Just an fyi, if you are wondering what other folks are at. Smile I've got tons of bookmarks, like 3-4 levels of nested folders (which I should pare down someday) and many cookies.

Don't be an uberPr∅. They are stinky.
