How do I make VLC play any kind of file when the browser >folder options> filetypes change is locked due to user priviliges being restricted as they are on most business or mobile PC's. Eg click on a .wav file and windows media play tries to play it I can't change the association for the extention in folder options as it's greyed out? Thanks »

File - Open... as with all the other apps.

You can't
change the associations if it isn't allowed. Try John's method above.
