Permission?

Did you get permission from the publisher before repackaging?

The owner is unavailable

The owner of this app, has refused ALL contact when I have tried to get a hold of him for another project.

SO good luck.

Now that CE's open sourced will it be made into a portable app?

from the crimsoneditor.com download page

There's also a GPL version being developed at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crimson_Editor

Assuming no copyrights are

Assuming no copyrights are being held on the logo's, etc. then it can be made portable and distributed. Will it be- only time will tell.

Crimson, for now

Considering that Emerald is not ready for download yet (only as source code, and in an early stage), I would vote for the powerful Crimson Editor in the short-term.
However, I'm willing to see Emerald 1.0, perhaps then I'll change my vote!

Is this dead?

I would love to use this, but it seems the files are no longer around. Anybody have a link to this?

Definatly Crimson Editor...

Hello,

I am a newbie here, but I use Portable Apps a lot. I would love to see Crimson Editor become a portable app! I use the editor all the time on my home PC, having it on a travel drive would be g8. Smile

crimson editor portable

ockabewis: it's right on the download page:

#
Crimson Editor Source Code
# Crimson Editor 3.71 Source (Dec. 30, 2006, 840KB) - Now it is open source
Hint) Crimson Editor can be compiled with Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0

I did manage to find a flakey portable version of crimson editor here.

The release in the forum I mentioned above does give an error/warning every startup and loads defaults. Probably because it tried to read configuration information from the registry and it needs to be changed to read it from an config file in the portable app dir. It does function normally however after the initial default warning prompt.

I'm not sure how hard it would be to make those small changes as I'm not a programmer and don't have the ms visual c++ suite. Apparently they're supporting crimson editor now via the next gen (cross platform) release of crimson editor: http://www.emeraldeditor.com/ so I'm going to check there for a portable release.

The main gripe I have with notepad++ is it's weak implementation of crimson editors 'column mode'. The most it appears you can do with notepad++ is hold CTRL and select blocks of text.

what was the link posted here?

How come this got deleted? The source code notice is mentioned in the post right above with a link to download the source code. It was made open source at the end of last week.
