Possible to use Data and Temp folder from RAM

Hi,

I have encrypted datas inside archive files (7z and others). I open them with 7zip or Peazip portable. Each file which I open is writing on my file system. That means each file that I open is writing always on the hard-drive. That means, each file can be recover easily.

For this operation only, 7zip or Peazip use temp and Data folder I think. It is possible to make something for a portable app to use just the RAM for one session or something like that?

Thank you

Setting up a mappable RAM disk require admin rights, unfortunately.

You could always have TEMP contained on your portable device. It's easy with a .bat file and that feature should land in the next platform beta.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Running apps off a RAM disc > still generates HDD activity

I wonder where I am wrong ...

Have created a 1GB RAM disc (on XP Pro, with 4GB RAM), moved system /Temp and usr /Temp to point to the RAM disc, installed some portable apps there, e.g. LibreOffice, FoxitReader, Teamviewer and had their /Temp and working directories explicitly point at the RAM disc as well.

The image is loaded from and written to the USB drive.

Starting apps, closing apps and saving data generates a lot of HDD activity - I wonder why?

My understanding is that it is portable apps core functionality not to generate HDD activity/traffic but operate contained on/in the drive assigned - in this case not residing on a USB disc but a RAM disc. Any ideas, suggestions, light, ...? Thank you.

Great idea to change /tmp

Great idea to change /tmp directories of the OS. But it is safe for other installed apps?

Try to use external SSDDrive.

Try to use external SSDDrive. = There price go lower and lower, since some month(s).

"USB/eSATA external ThumbDrive/HardDiskDrive" is also a good choice. You can use USB2.0 computer port with a USB3.0 drive, but it will have the speed of USB2.0. Also, i dont see "USB3.0 ThumbDrive" greater than 64 Gig, maybe later in 2013 and up.

P.S. "PortableApps.com Platform installation on SSDDrive internal", it will not made it portable, then is not recommended.

P.S. "PortableApps.com Platform installation on RamDrive", it will use a lot of computer Ram, then is not recommended.
