I have a requirement to use FireFox Portable 10.0.3 and Java Portable (version 6 Update 45) for a web app that has these stringent version requirements. On Windows XP (SP3), when a local installation of Java is present, Java in the FireFox portable 10.0.3 and Java Portable 6 Update 45 package does not work. It launches java (I see java.exe in the process table), but it just hangs and does nothing. On Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Window 8 it works fine - just not on Windows XP.
Doing some troubleshooting, I see that XP calls the java plugin differently - it launches java.exe with several arguments, some of the arguments point to PATHs that are the local java install rather than the java portable directories. I can only imagine that this is what is causing the problem. On Vista/Win7/Win8, jp2launcher.exe is used to call the java plugin, and it works just fine.
Any ideas would be helpful.
I don't think modern Java works properly with an outdated Firefox build like that. You may be able to use an older Java with it, though.

Keep in mind we don't support or recommend either. These horribly outdated web apps really need to be updated.
