PortableApps.com Website Layout Bug

On the left side of the website there is a language selector and the flag icons are covering the text above it. I don't know if anyone else has noticed this but it might just be an issue with my browser. I am using Opera Portable. Thank you! Smile

Probably Won't Fix

As this only affects the now-dead Opera 12.x and we're part way into a switchover to a new Drupal theme, I don't think I'll be working on a fix for it. It works fine in current/modern Opera.

Where did the User login box on the left go?

I keep scrolling up and down the page looking for the User login box before I realise it's not there and I have to go to the actual User account Log in page, is this change do to the aforementioned Drupal theme switchover?

I don't know about other people, but I really liked being able to browse without signing in, then easily sign in on whatever page I happened to be on when I decided to without having to load another page which then takes me to the "My Account" page rather than where I was.
It's not the end of the world or anything, but it sure does make the Login experience much less enjoyable.

Note: This is in Firefox 30 and IE 9

Removed, Login Link Will Now Do The Same

I've removed the login box in an attempt to bring the larger ad slightly higher up the page for users who aren't logged in in an attempt to get increase revenue from it. That plus the fact that the vast majority of visitors never log in at all. The login button in the upper right should suffice.

UPDATE: I've tweaked it to take you back to the page you were on once you login using the link in the upper right.

Cool/Oops, At least now I know to stop looking for it ;-þ

Cool, though you missed the / at the beginning, so this page's Log in link currently takes you to https://portableapps.com/node/user/login?destination=node%2F41931 which is a 404 because the "node/" shouldn't be there.

Now that I know it's been removed I guess I'll stop looking for it, though it would still be nice if it didn't have to load up another page. (What do you think of making the Log in link use javascript to show the login form?)

Fixed

It's been fixed.

There isn't a reliable, fully-supported, single extension, AJAX style login form for Drupal 6 without showing a full block on the left side (which is what we just eliminated). It wouldn't make much sense to spend much time on it as we're moving to Drupal 7. A single page load isn't a big deal anyway, and an AJAX login form would either be about the same load or slow down every single page.

Ooh, Drupal 7‼

As you say, AJAX isn't practical. I was just thinking of something relatively simple, like a hidden div with the form in it, and an onclick event on the Log in link to make it visible.
(or if you want to get really fancy you could do something lightbox-ish }:))

But hey, don't let it take away from more important things, it works as it is now and if Drupal 7 is coming soon I can ignore a lot more than this.

By the way: Any news on the Drupal Upgrade front?

Switched to Firefox

Looks like you were right. I opened the page in Firefox and it's all right now. I've been using Opera Portable for a while now on my desktop because Firefox and Chrome were too slow for my computer to handle but looks like Firefox either got a few really good updates or I cleaned out my computer well. Probably a little bit of both. Well, thanks for the info!
