McAffee Portable Stinger Anti Virus Scanner infected with Suspicious.Cloud.9 per Norton 360

I've attempted to download McAfee Stinger Portable ver 12.1.0.992 twice since it was uploaded 7-14-14. Both times, my Norton 360 killed it immediately saying:
Filename: zofj9gxt.exe.part
Threat name: Suspicious.Cloud.9
Full Path: c:\users\ (local directory)

It's Clean

As shown on VirusTotal, it's clean in all engines including Norton: https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/fe66a12f69bb2bb9d9653014d07efbf147be9...

If you have heuristics enabled in Norton (aka 'guessing' about viruses), it will have all kind of false positives like this. You can inform Norton of their error by submitting a false positive report to them.

Will the vanilla McAfee Stinger run on thumbdrives?

Thanks, John - I couldn't download the portable app, as Norton killed it on sight. AND ALSO: The plan vanilla McAfee Stinger downloaded directly from McAfee says it is a 'standalone utility'.

See
http://www.mcafee.com/us/downloads/free-tools/stinger.aspx

Does this mean the direct-from McAfee stinger32.ext will run as a portable app from a thumbdrive? If so, is there any reason to get a 'portable app' version of this product?

"Portable"

It runs without being installed, but it leaves multiple bits behind on the local machine, so it's not portable.

McAfee Stinger continues to AUTO-DOWNLOAD to my PC

John
I don't know if you can assist or not, but since I had the difficulty (above) with McAfee Stinger, and never was able to get the download past my Norton 360 security software, on at least THREE independent occasions separated by many days SOMETHING on my computer has downloaded the file:

mcafeestingerportable_12.1.0.992_english_online.paf.exe

to my PC's download area - without my visiting PortableApps.com, without my visiting or attempting to download the product, without my visiting McAfee..... The file just shows up on my computer. My computer continues to score 'clean' when I scan it using Norton and stand-alone non-memory versions of MalwareBytes and Emisoft Emergency Kit. I have not 'run' McAfee during any of this period.

Any ideas?
thanks, in advance -

Possible Norton or Browser

None of our software is configured to use the local 'Download' area at all, so it wouldn't be the PA.c Platform or updater.

Since Norton messed with you earlier, it could be Norton.

Or it could be because Norton interrupted the download within your browser's download manager. In that case, it may be trying to resume the broken download each time and Norton is interfering each time. You can likely resolve it by clearing everything out of your download history.

Other than that, it could be reopening the tab in your browser to make the download as well.
