Various questions on future features

Hi,
I have few questions regarding features:

1. .NET Portable App : this feature has been announced few years ago but there is still no official word about it. Can we expect this to go live in a near future

2. Launcher customization: will we be able to see basic launcher customization? Like be able to create our own categories and add shortcut to other applications (e.g. installed one, such as Explorer, or Regedit ...)

Thanks!

Coming

1. You can already add portable .NET apps to the platform. They won't be automatically updated, of course. We're still finalizing the .NET app strategy. It was supposed to be straightforward once XP was retired, but Microsoft decided to hobble Windows 8/8.1's .NET support by disabling .NET 2.0/3.0/3.5 support by default and making it so only an admin can enable it. That means there are no versions of .NET at all that work by default across Vista, 7, and 8/8.1 as you can see in this chart. So, the only .NET portable apps that will work by default will be ones set to work on .NET 2.0 through 4.0 like KeePass 2.0 is. Unfortunately, that's an EXCEEDINGLY narrow set of apps, so we can't just start adding .NET apps to the directory and will have to go with our earlier plan of having .NET apps be a separate section, disabled by default, and understanding all the versions of .NET they support (instead of an app just saying it needs .NET 3.5 for instance) and having the platform check for all those different versions independently. Messy, messy.

2. You can create a category right now just by right-clicking an app, selecting Category, and then Add a New Category. Shortcuts are coming in a later release.

There are a lot of features and functionality competing for attention so some prioritization is happening. All are listed here: https://portableapps.com/node/28593

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

I wasn't aware about this

I wasn't aware about this issue with .Net. Thanks for the clarifications.
And keep on the good job you're doing Smile
