sync s/w DirSync Pro

background: I've been using FreeFileSync portable (the author's version not the PA one) for a few years now. Before that I used DirSync Pro. I've a grumble with FFS about it not writing logs at the moment so I took another look at DirSync Pro latest.

I like it. It is natively portable (though not in PA form).

Possible negs are that it is java so appears slower than FFS and munches quite a lot of memory on my XP era system, but that shouldn't bother people with shinier kit.

Worth a look as the PA version of FFS hasn't been updated for some time, Toucan is on hold, Synkron is no longer being developed and IIRC the last time I tried out DSynchronize it was just to idiosyncratic.

Who knows, someone might want to make a PA verion of DirSync Pro after trying it out though I'm likely to stick with the native one if I do decide to use it daily.

Anyway, main reason for posting is that I see a gap in PA's sync toolset and DirSync Pro may be it for some people.

FFS and Toucan

The FFS issue is a large bug in the app itself. It doesn't work when launched from another process. You can't even run the standard portable package from the PA.c Platform. It's a year-old bug that's easily demonstrable but the publisher seems uninterested in even investigating it let along fixing it: https://sourceforge.net/p/freefilesync/discussion/open-discussion/thread...

Toucan development has been re-started. We'll be discussing it more shortly.

It may be worth looking at DirSync as well, time permitting, of course.

Not salting old wounds

I wasn't saying anything about the perceived FFS bug as I don't use the PA version so don't care. The PA version of FFS was always f-ed for my batch use anyway *plus* I wasn't raising that point as I know it is a bee in your bonnet.

Let's move on.

I doubt I'll be interested in Toucan even if it is revived unless it learns from similar tools that work on multiple operating systems.

I wasn't saying you, JTH, had to look at DirSync Pro, I was saying people should. Put your hackles down, please, I genuinely believe sync is a gap in the PA offering and tried to put something useful to many forward.

I could have suggested

if I was trying to be rude. Perfect syncing but not easy to use. I thought I knew my audience Sad

Hackles and Combativeness

I'm unsure why you felt the need to use the above tone. There was no malice or comativeness intended or conveyed in my post. And I wasn't implying or stating that I didn't have time to package it. Just that it would fall on a developer to find time to package and maintain it and on me to verify, sign, release and announce it. Please keep things civil in the forums.
