I have similar problems to earlier posts. With getting 2.1 to open. I was running 2.0 from John's earlier site and it ran fine. When I removed it and installed 2.1 and ran it for the first time I got the "PortableOpenOffice.org" logo and it faded and that was it. No processes running, the program never loaded. I installed the patch available, although my path is extremely short the settings folder did not create itself. But still no luck. I am running XP SP2 Media Center Ed. Any ideas?

Download the settings patch. It could be odd characters in your path as well. It will be included by default with future releases.

So I installed the Patch you have available and it still didn't run. You had mentioned the odd characters (my Path: X:\$500\PortableOpenOffice) So I changed the $500 folder to 500 and deleted the settings patched, everything worked fine from that point then. But for some reason the patch would not work with that $ character - thought I'd let you know so you can see about fixing it. Thanks again John, love portable apps.
Why the $ in the path? Odd characters like that can mess up a bunch of different programs.
