Feedback from updating Gaim Portable v2.0.0 beta 5 to v2.0.0 beta 6kvo336 - January 26, 2007 - 8:36am
Hi, As beta 6 is out now, I tried to use the official guidelines to make it portable. I installed beta 6, and then copied all the required directories and files to my portable beta 5 installation (made with John's installer). Obviously, Gaim was off. I chose "no GTK theme" as I heard about issues with the Wimp Theme. Well, apparently this didn't do the trick. Gaim launched itself correctly, connected to all my 5 different accounts, loaded my buddies, I was able to edit and change the preferences, but I had it crashing on adding/editing accounts. I tried removing them directly from accounts.xml : didn't do anything. I checked the bugs already submitted on the Gaim project, and found this one. It recommends to fully desinstall and remove every folder before installing the new version (well this can apply to pretty much any piece of software you may use, as it is as always the best way to avoid troubles). That's what I did then : removed from my portable Gaim those : Then putting all the files and folders back from the beta 6 installation, I am nom enjying a fully portable Gaim 2.0.0 beta 6 ! ^^ Hope this helps a few folks around here.
