Avast Antivirus says Iobit Uninstaller Portable update is infected with
FileRepMetagen [Malware] and blocks installation. All other programs are fine.

Iobit has a browser add-on which is problematic, and Avast is pretty reliable.

If this is a standard issue Iobit should probably be not be part of the whole set-up.

Avast

Avast has had pretty regular false positives over the years. All free antivirus packages seem to have a ton of them with the exception of Microsoft's.

That said, it could be detecting it in a disabled EXE/DLL. We, quite literally, rename several of the included files to .disabled in the package so they aren't used. Things like Explorer integration and the promotional bits that are included with IObit apps. It's likely detecting one of those.

I'll look into repackaging it with them eliminated entirely.

Avast virus detection on Iobit

Thanks! Do you work for Iobit or portableapps?

I surmise the second. If you'd make me a list of the disabled one and tell me how to download the package without installing it I could delete them by hand... In between I simply do not update that one, but of course it pop up every time....

avast getting bad

Avast is getting too bad in recent times, simply too many false alarms and to recover files is then time consuming.
On some of my computers I have removed Avast now as it does not serve the purpose any more.
On number of w7 installations, I use now the microsoft antivius, it leaves me to do my work at least.

New Revision, PortableApps.com

I've posted a new revision of the app that eliminates the unnecessary files, many of which would be flagged by antiviruses as they are used by the base app (but not the portable one) for offers. Hopefully, this may help you in installing. It has the added benefit of cutting down download and install size.

I run PortableApps.com. I'm the guy whose picture you see on the Donate page. Smile
