Boing!!! [portable app xyz] didn't close properly and ...

... please start it (seemingly immediately!!) again manually.

Can't the apps be made such that they clean up and then restart automatically? Of course you'll say "If you don't like it then close properly!" But normally, when shutting down Windows, Windows closes all apps for me. I remember times when this was no problem, not even for portable apps. Also portable apps from other sites don't suffer this issue. But on this site more and more (if not already all) apps have been transferred to the 'a close by Windows is not a proper close'-format. Is this really necessary? Can't nobody fix this issue?

PA.c Platform Automatically Closes All Apps and Shuts Down

The PortableApps.com Platform can close all your portable apps that support it properly and shut down Windows automatically. It will even warn you about ones that Windows would kill and lose unsaved data (example: every app that runs in the system tray) so you can close it yourself.

Shutting Windows down doesn't close all apps. It force closes most of them if they're unable to respond. In other words, it crashes them. So, our launcher can't clean up after apps that leave things behind in the registry, APPDATA, TEMP, etc because Windows just closes it. Which means they're not even running portably, all your data for apps that move things on and off the PC is left behind as if the apps were running locally.

If you don't care about portability and are fine with your data left behind in the registry, APPDATA, etc, I'd recommend you use the local version of the apps.

I'm sorry but apps can not currently be restarted automatically due to the complexity of the code in PAL. We can't just have the launcher restart itself as it will mess up a series of environment variables to do so at present. You're free to work on the PAL code yourself or pay a developer to do so if you'd like to enhance it as it's 100% open source.

This has been thoroughly discussed and was fixed by PA.c Platform 12.0 which automatically closes all your apps for you without crashing them.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
