Resolved: SourceForge security certificate expired, site inaccessible by most, workarounds live and coming

At 6:59pm NY time on December 2nd, SourceForge.net's security certificate expired. This results in most visitors being faced with a "This Connection is Untrusted" or similar page when attempting to visit SourceForge. As most of our open source downloads are hosted on SourceForge and all traffic is redirected to HTTPS, this means many of the files are inaccessible to end users.

We were alerted to the issue at approximately 9:30pm NY time. At 9:40pm, we made the PortableApps.com Platform installer files available on our freeware download server network and pointed the English, German, and Russian download pages to that download location and forced a rebuild of the cached versions of those pages on the site (seen by users not logged in) so that all users can download the platform. All SourceForge-hosted apps can be downloaded via the PortableApps.com Platform which will verify the integrity of the files once downloaded.

At 10:00pm, this page was posted and added as a sitewide alert to ensure all users are aware of this issue, how it affects them, and how they can workaround the issue.

We're working on hosting for the other files. In the meantime, as a workaround, users wishing to individually download a single app can temporarily allow the SourceForge site to be accessed within their browser. They can also temporarily install the PortableApps.com Platform and allow it to download the apps for you via the Portable App Store. Advanced users wishing to preserve the individual installers can locate them in their TEMP directory while the PortableApps.com App Store is running.

We're sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you and thank you for your patience as we work to make downloads more accessible to you.

- John and the PortableApps.com Team

Resolved at 10:35pm, Switched to wildcard

It appears that SourceForge's main site has been switched to their wildcard *.soureceforge.net certificate and is working again. You may need to clear your cache, restart your browser, or reboot your device to see it properly.

We decided to hold back tonight's set of app updates until this is sorted out for everyone rather than have a bunch of folks frustrated by being unable to download. We'll be opening up the taps again in the morning NYC time.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
