Sourceforge blocked by Google Chrome (Resolved, non-issue)

Hi,

apparently downloads of portable packages from Sourceforge are blocked by Google Chrome. I have tried to search the forum but haven't found anything definitive and/or recent in regard to this.

Simple question: Are portable apps hosted on Sourceforge a risk? Have they been modified by Sourceforge in any way?

Any clarification would be appreciated, thank you!

Not Blocked

Google Chrome is not blocking SourceForge downloads. I just checked. Is there a specific file you're unable to access?

If you're using uBlock, it blocks SourceForge for semi-arbitrary reasons that are long-since resolved. It's the only major ad blocker with this bug.

I'm trying to download

I'm trying to download windirstat via the portable apps link (https://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/windirstat_portable)

It redirects to http://58.27.38.11/jaist.dl.sourceforge.net/project/portableapps/WinDirS...

which brings up the following message:

The site ahead contains harmful programs
Attackers on 58.27.38.11 might attempt to trick you into installing programs that harm your browsing experience (for example, by changing your homepage or showing extra ads on sites you visit).

Odd

That is odd. The correct link should be http://jaist.dl.sourceforge.net/project/portableapps/WinDirStat%20Portab... for the download mirror in your geographic location. Have you scanned your computer to see if there's anything that may be interfering? That IP address of 58.27.38.11 is within TMnet Telekom Malaysia. Is that your internet service provider? Could it be that someone is trying to interfere with your traffic at your organizational, service provider, or governmental level?

ahh... you are not wrong

ahh... you are not wrong about the governmental level. Interesting. And yes, TMnet is the state controlled internet provider.

Thank you for the clarification.

Platform

Ah, ok. Sorry to hear that.

One option is to use the PortableApps.com Platform. It does a direct download from SourceForge bypassing the browser for apps. It also checks the download's hash to ensure another random file (malware, etc) hasn't been substituted for the proper one once it's downloaded. The main platform download is directly from PortableApps.com.
