I find myself using my PortableApps thumb drive more and more to the point where it is my primary mobile computing environment. I used to take my personal laptop with me on all trips, now I simply take my PortableApps thumb drive. This leads me to wonder if there is any way to monitor the health of my thumb drive? I know there are HDD health monitor apps like CrystalDiskInfo that use S.M.A.R.T. information available from the drive but I don't think this works for USB thumb drives. Anyone have any ideas to get early warning of problems with a thumb drive?

I think there is not much use for it. In usb sticks flash drives, the controller is what does fail in general before any other components start to fail.
When the controller fails, it fails immediately and there is no communication with the rest from then.
