getting my e mails from a non working portatable ThunderbirdGoldtag - March 4, 2007 - 11:03pm
My Portable Thunderbird will not open, either from my desktop shortcut, or directly from the file on my jump drive. I have already tried making a copy of the profile folder, and then deleting it. Nothing happens. I do get the Thunderbird Portable opening screen, and then nothing. I thought I would uninstall the current one and then install a new download, but I dont want to loose the emails in that folder. How do I copy them or send them or import the emails into a new download? I appreciate your help. Thanks. ( categories: )

Just download a fresh copy
of Thunderbird and extract it right over the old one. None of you settings or mails will get lost.

Download a fresh copy
I tried installing the fresh copy and got the following messages:
Cannot open Output file
0 f:Thunderbirdportable\app\thunderbird\components\jsd3250
... \mspell.dll
\xpstab.dll
\updater.exe
Then I put a copy of my backed up profile into the folder & opened it, and my profile was not recognized.
What else can I do to get my old e mails back?
Thanks
Thank you
Try deleting
*.msf files. In the /profile/Mail folder, for every folder you have in Thunderbird (like inbox), there is a msf file. You can delete them without losing any of your mail data, because the are just index-files for where in the other files TB has to look for a specific mail.
