Limewire for USB stick

rafa1215 - January 13, 2006 - 9:00pm

I would like to request Limewire for USB stick. I have a 500mb usb stick that I would like to install Limewire on. I want to have the choice to put my downloaded items on either the usb stick or the hard drive.

also

Its legality is questionable. Wouldn't want to get John in trouble Smiling

Legality

Legality isn't the issue, Limewire is a completely legal, open source, project. However, I personally would rather see time devoted to more useful applications like Portable Thunderbird, Firefox, OpenOffice, etc.

limewire

I run limewire on a usb stick. As the letter drive change, you need to change where the files goes to.

Outvolt, please send me instructions on how you do that

Outvolt, Can you please send me instructions on how you do that?

On every computer you use.

Can a launcher be made that tells Limewire where to find Java? I set it up LOCALLY and it had to install the JRE even though I had the JDK installed. Aside from registry problems, Limewire would be portable (on Windows PCs with Java at least) then.

Hmm

Well, I don't think so.
It gets it from the registry I think.
Not sure though...

Nope. It looks for

Nope. It looks for C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_*\.
It didn't pick up my JDK. (C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_05\). Funny, considering the runtime was in a subfolder named \jre\.

Vintage!

Well, maybe a command line option

Which could work...
I'll get back to you.

(Sorry, but I have to)
I'm working on Limewire Portable with an experienced Java programmer who will be modifying the source of Limewire to remove registry stuff.
In short(er): I'm working on it.

you don't really need to make it a portable app. it's just a matter of when downloading, just change the destination of the download to the jump drive.

Wrong! Limewire stores its settings in the registry.

Hello dudes, i present myself...

And wanna say there's an official portable version of LimeWire, just go to the download page, and download the OTHER version of LimeWire, it is a compressed file with all of the files Lw needs to run properly, put them on your portable device and presto!

Actually

It's not portable, saves it's settings to the location above.
