I delete the email message but the thunderbird folder now is 266MB!! how to resolve ? ( categories: )

In the future, please search first as this has been answered many times.
Thunderbird will 'delete' the message but it will be in the physical folder on the disk until you compact it. Right-click and select compact folder. You can have it do this automatically with a setting:

Try this
click on "file"->"compact folders"
and check again.
TB doesnt actually delete your message when you delete it. It only ignores it and you have to compact your folders to really make TB delete it.
