Set APPDATA environment variable temporarily

Hi,
does anyone know a way to set the APPDATA environment variable temporarily, i.e. during the run of a launcher?

It could be set via registry, but this would cause that other currently running applications would not find their data anymore. (At least I think)

Any ideas?

OK found it

Seems like the $APPDATA variable within NSIS and that one visible for applications could be changed by modifying the environment variable USERPROFILE within Win2K and WinXP ( I think WinNT also).
But I don't know about Win95, WinME, Win98.

Or do you think it does not make sense to support those plattforms anymore??
