As stated about a dozen times previously...

Windows Mobile is *IS NOT WINDOWS*. Only Windows Mobile apps work on Windows Mobile. Regular Windows apps do not. These are Windows apps. You can't run a Windows app on your device any more than you can run a Mac OSX app or a Linux app on it.

Microsoft purposely named it Windows Mobile to make people think it was more functional than it is.

Windows mobile IS a windows

Windows mobile IS a windows OS. The down side is that Windows Mobile (Built on the CE platform) does not run the same programs a Dos or NT based windows OS runs.

An example is there is a file extentions known as a .cab. On windows CE it is a installer/EXE/compressed file. On Windows 9x/NT it is a compression used for Explorer.

Stating Windows CE is not Windows is slightly misleading. Windows CE is NOT compatable with Windows exacutables.

If you want a mobile OS that will run the same program as your desktop i recommend getting a Linux installed on your mobile device. Then all you have to do is make sure that the programs are compatable with a ARM processor.

Windows Moblie 5 is Windows CE 5. Source is --> http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/cb/Windows_CE_Timeline.png

There is a Windows CE compatable WinRAR for free. i dont think it is GPL.

No, It's Not

It's Windows in name alone. When anyone mentions Windows... they're talking about *REAL* Windows... Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows XP, WIndows Vista. Every other actual Windows operating system has run programs developed for other Windows operating systems. In this case, Windows Mobile doesn't run any software except software developed specifically for Windows Mobile. And there is no reason to revive this 6 month old topic for a reply.

Any way you slice it... Windows Mobile (aka Windows CE) is *NOT* Windows.

Well...

Maybe there should be a platform that works on ppc's and virtualize it into a fully functioning pc with a small screen. Or use remote software with IE mobile to get to your pc.
P.S. why is this topic in the 7zip portable forum?

I was thinking you can plug

I was thinking you can plug in your flash drive into your pc and then use LogMeIn to access it off the PPC. But your may as well not get the portable versions, then anyway.

WM 5/6 COMPATIBILITY

I think that it is very short sided on your part to say that just because it had been brought up before, that everyone should know I thought forums were for everyone to get their questions answered, not to be subjected to someone who thinks it's trite to be troubled with answering it again. Politely answer the freaking question this is about user helping user isn't it.

Thank You for your time and patience, peas owt

Yes, sometimes people can be

Yes, sometimes people can be a bit terse or even sound angry when they have to answer the same question for the 10,000th time. And yes, answering the question with that attitude makes newcomers feel unwelcome. But people are people, and can't always be perfect. Thanks for understanding.

7-zip doesn't appear to have a version that works on Windows CE or Mobile. You'd have to go to their web site to ask them to consider adding it. Since it is a completely different environment, making a CE or Mobile version is not trivial.
