Hello,

I would like to see this program portable http://www.techsmith.com/screen-capture.asp use it a lot.

Now I have copied the folder in program files to the flash drive. The annoying part of this way is that I have to enter every time the serial when I run the program.

Is there a way to fix this?

Kind Regards..

Mu suggestion...

...is to switch to FSCapture Portable.

[warez link removed by moderator JTH. Please do *NOT* under any circumstances link to illegal software. This is your first warning]

Program details: http://www.faststone.org/FSCaptureDetail.htm

Cancer Survivors -- Remember the fight, celebrate the victory!
Help control the rugrat population -- have yourself spayed or neutered!

FSCapture is not Shareware as of version 5.4

The following is a link at the PortableFreeware.com site (NOT WAREZ). Apparently, the license in use prior to version 5.4 allows redistribution, so the webmaster there has posted the latest free release (5.3).
"Synopsis: FastStone Capture is a powerful, flexible and intuitive screen-capture utility. It allows you to capture anything on the screen including windows, objects, full screen, rectangle regions, freehand-selected regions and scrolling windows/web pages. It has innovative features such as a floating Capture Panel, hotkeys, resizing, cropping, text annotation, printing, e-mailing, screen magnifier and many more.

Note: FastStone Capture appeared to have gone payware starting from V5.4. Since the license agreement does not prohibit redistribution, I have made the last freeware version (V5.3) available for direct download."

Warez warning?

I linked to something I found on Google....

Cancer Survivors -- Remember the fight, celebrate the victory!
Help control the rugrat population -- have yourself spayed or neutered!

Careful When Doing That

You have to be careful what you're encouraging people to download. What you linked to was an illagel package of commercial software (warez). That same site had links to other warez like PhotoShop.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

ORly!?

I didn't notice all that!

Sorry peeps!

Please read the Guid linse

First of all Snagit is huge and probably death for flash-drive. Second this is not a free program. Third it is not open source so we can not modify it in any way.

Open Source Screen capture software

A quick web search (pick your search engine) returned the following info on open source continuous capture software:
» DemoStudio - GPL-licensed screen capture application for Microsoft Windows (open source). DemoStudio records by default to AVI format, but provides an excellent tool called DemoStudio Producer for converting these into Flash (SWF) files.

» CamStudio- GPL-licensed screen capture application for Microsoft Windows (open source). CamStudio is a simple, straightforward program to record screen activity to AVI or SWF format. You can also record audio from your speakers or microphone. Rendersoft CamStudio was acquired by eHelp and incorporated into their RoboDemo software. CamStudio is also available on SourceForge.

Cam Studio Portable is already here in the Beta Forum. See http://portableapps.com/node/3572

screen shots?

Yeah, but does CamStudio take screen shots?

Hit "PrintScreen", open Gimp Portable, choose NewFile, Paste (edit or crop) save.

"We exist in a multidimensional polymorphic hyerspacial internode of neurotranslinguistic manifestations subjugated by hyperbolic quantum entanglement."

That's really limited.

Some of these apps have the capability to capture only a section of the screen, the currently active window, any user defined shape, a scrolling window, full screen, support transparency in some cases, save directly to multiple file formats, or open and edit with an external editor, plus more features.

My search didn't find any

My search didn't find any Open Source single screen capture utilities. Personally, I use FSCapture, having moved from trial versions of Snagit earlier this year.

There are quite a few on

There are quite a few on SourceForge, unfortunately most of the full featured ones need .NET, or don't have Windows ports yet. Greenshot looks the best out of the ones listed on SF, but it does need .NET

They all suck !!

All the ones on sourceforge suck compared to FScapture ,
not only because of .net but for lack of features .
Probably why FScapture turned pay-ware.
I stick with v 5.3, already portable and the license does allow distribution .

How about

How about ShotGenius?

There. I have a signature. I hope you're happy now.

Is it open-source?

I don't see a download for the source, and it's not included.

As well, unless there already is one, we would need a translation to english.

You're correct, this is

You're correct, this is apparently closed freeware. As far as I have looked it is clean and portable though.

The link I gave is in

The link I gave is in English, and the software download link on that page downloads the English version of the software. Or, at least it did. Smiling

Another alternative

My suggestion is ScreenShot Captor from Mouser over at www.donationcoder.com. It is not "Open Source", but it is freely available donationware. The concept of the site is to have people donate to the site into an account in their name, then they get a key to register all software they provide and ask that you provide donations from your account to the people on the site that help you, either through the software they created, the help they provide on the forums, or whatever...

If you don't want to donate first, you can download the software free to try for six months (or something like that). After six months it expires and you can go to the site again to get a new key. After the next six months, if you still do not wish to donate, you can request a third key that will be non-expiring. Obviously, that is not their hope, but hey, it is still truly free at that point. I have found only one feature that is in SnagIt (version 8.1 and above) that is not in the current version of ScreenShot Captor, but Mouser already has that on the books for the next version he is working on now (or at least will be soon - I am not sure where he stands on the release of his current project).

Anyway, check it out and see if that helps. It is not a PortableApp program, at least not yet, but all his programs can be run portably (off a USB stick for example) as they have no registry files or other tie-ins that require them to be "installed".

My Suggestion

I use MW Snap, this is freeware and works a treat.
http://www.mirekw.com/winfreeware/mwsnap.html
I simply copied this to my Flash Drive.
I have not checked for registry entries, but I am not a purist, I want stuff that just works !
