We still can't modify it.

We still can't modify it. If it is not open source, there really isn't anything we can legally do, and since it's a MS product, it probably creates hundreds of registry entries and installs components in folders that only admins can access. That alone makes it nearly impossible to make portable

I doubt that program could

I doubt that program could be made portable since it installs services on the the machine. It's big and bloated.

Trying to make that program portable would be like trying to make a HumVee get 50 miles/gallon...ain't gonna happen.

Have you considered other

Have you considered other possible databases? If your needs are not too complex, SQLite runs fine from a portable drive and is available from it's website. If you need something more robust, take a look at XAMPP Portable here. It contains MySQL, which is another fairly powerful SQL database. Again, if your needs are not complex, OOo Base is a SQL compatible database contained within OpenOfficeorgPortable (also found on this site).

Good luck!
