Well,

not to disapoint you, but this is app requests. Your question deals more with General Dicsussion.

BTW: I searched SourceForge.net and this is the page I found:
http://sourceforge.net/search/?type_of_search=soft&words=CAD
http://sourceforge.net/projects/avocado-cad/

Disclaimer!!! I did not try any of these. They may or may not do what you want. It is not my fault if they are not what you want. They may or may not work with PAM. These are just some opensource CAD tools and programs.

avoCADo is still pre-Alpha, but maybe check out BRL-CAD

Also found on SourceForge, this is a package that's been used by the military for a while.

Too bad Google Sketchup is not GPL

AND writes tons of stuff to the registry.
It is pretty easy to use, and can read AutoCAD files.

CAD

If you use AutoCAD, there really is no open-source program that can compare to it. I've downloaded a few and tried them, but it lacks a lot of functions. And I have to admit, I downloaded a pirated version of "Portable Autocad" but it was VERRRRY, VERRRRY slow and left files behind, so I got rid of it. And to make a good portable version of Autocad will be very difficult (besides the legality of it), since it depends on a lot of dll's reg entries, and files and folders located throughout the system.

How about something like PocketDGN

I've used it on my old Jornada 548. It would read and write Autocad .dwg files. It's more towards .dgn files but, Autocad will work with them as well.

no

Is not for Portable drives, just for Pocket PCs, and is not GPL (in fact is not even freeware or shareware)...

If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port,
and the bus is interrupted as a very last resort,
and the address of the memory makes your floppy disk abort,
then the socket packet pocket has an error to report Laughing out loud

LiteCAD

LiteCAD (http://www.litecad.com) is free and runs portably. Yes the website is sparse. It will open dwg files, but is definitely a work in progress. No dimensioning capability yet.

Good luck

CAD Applications

Do you know of any Open Source, or even Freeware, CAD Apps that open/save the DWG Files you've mentioned and do whatever else you want?

I have a couple of Apps queued to look at when I have the time, i.e. CADEMIA (which has been done before, but seems to have been abandoned) and FreeCAD, but I haven't checked their capabilities yet.
