Looking for portable icon changer and mouse gesture

I would like to make folders in my usb driver more beautiful, just like what I do in my computer.
XP is able to change most icons of folders and shortcuts, but it can't be done within the usb driver.
I tried some icon-changing program, but they all need to be installed.
Does anyone know how to do it?

The other one, a mouse gesture program.
I've looked up the forum, but there seems not one...

I can't enter the site with hundreds of protables... orz

I found two icon editors...

I got these off portablefreeware.com

@icon sushi V1.19 : http://www.towofu.net/soft/e-aicon.php
and
SnIco Edit V2.2.3 : http://www.snidesoft.com/

Both look pretty good, just grab the zip files and extract to your flash drive.

...and what do you mean exactly by mouse gesture program?

You know, I've never needed

You know, I've never needed it, but they do have them for the desktop, not just the browser, right?

SnIco Edit

My vote is on SnIco Edit. I've been using it for a while now and haven't had any problems at all.

As for a "Windows Blinds" alternative, you might be interested in the Use a new shell! discussion.

uh~ not an icon editor

First, thank you all for replying. ^^

But I was not asking for an icon "editor".
Maybe I didn't express correctly.
I mean a software to change the icons of the folder in the flash driver.
XP enables you to customize the icons of the folder and shortcut, but not the folders in the flash drivers.
Therefore, I'm looking for something like "portable icolorfolder"
Any idea? ^^

Speaking of the mouser gesture thing...
There are things that a dock or a launcher can't do,
like sending a file to a specific folder, closing all windows, and etc.
Maybe it works like this:
Clicking a file and draw down and then left with mouse, then the file is sended to your D:/.
Something like that. Does any one know?

Yes, I'm very interested in the "new shell". I'll keep seeing it. ^^

Do it manually

You just need to create a file called desktop.ini in each folder with a specific format. For example, if you have a specific folder and you want it to have a Firefox icon, you drop the icon file (firefox.ico) in that folder and then create a desktop.ini file in that folder with the following in it:

[.ShellClassInfo]
IconFile=firefox.ico
IconIndex=0

You'll also need to generate a thumbs.db in that folder, which you can do by switching to thumbnail view. That's all there is to it.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Activicon

I've found a software called Activicon. It a nice icon changer. It needs to be installed, but it seems run well after I copy the dir to my flash driver.

Yes, I've just found the thing called desktop.ini, and I also googled it and got some info about it.

However, here is the problem.
No matter how I try, I can't change any icon manually(by adding desktop.ini myself).
I have to use a software, XP or Activicon mentioned above, to add the desktop.ini (set the proporty in XP or change icon through Activicon to get a desktop.ini).
After doing this, I can change the icon of the specific folder through editing its desktop.ini.
But nothing happens if I do it manually.
Also it doesn't work if I copy the ini created by XP or AI to other folders.

Can somebody help?

I use StrokeIt for mouse gestures

I use StrokeIt for mouse gestures. I'm not sure how portable it is. I installed it on my desktop computer, copied the folder to my USB drive and then un-installed it from the desktop. It looks like it keeps all settings in it's application folder, but I havent done any testing to be sure.

I've never had a problem running it. I cant work without it now. That's why I put it on my USB drive, so it will always be with me.

WOW

I was never really into mouse gestures as you were dependant on each program implementing them, this is great.

I just know I am going to spent the next few weeks waggling my mouse like a madman !

Not exactly portable

Just for the record. It looks like Stoke-It writes settings to the registry. Too bad, since this make it offically NOT a portable app.

I does still work as I discribed, though. You'll just leave a trace is all.
