Platform 2.0 App Organization Ideas and Planning

If you've tried the new app organization in 'smart' mode, you may notice that it's not quite what we'd like as a default view. Currently, it lists favorites first. Then all other apps are listed by the number of times they've been run. I'm thinking it may make more sense to sort them by when they were last run instead. Possibly even adding in the ability for an app you just added to filter to the top for a day or so. What do you think?

Regshot Guidelines: How To Post Relevant Bits Without Breaking The Site

Since it seems a few devs are still having issues posting regshot when doing testing, I'm going to post a few guidelines on how to do so. There are multiple reasons for this guide. First off, huge regshots with extra stuff from other apps or update processes are pretty useless for testing (there's too much noise and barely any signal). Second, huge regshots posted into comments can break the site's search indexing and cause other issues (like delaying sending out site update notifications, etc) until manually fixed. After just losing 1.5 hours to this, I figured it was time for a guide.

Forum Guidelines: Beta Testing

The Beta Testing Forum is used to provide test versions of applications that aren't yet ready for wide use, but could use the input of willing participants to test them out to hammer out any bugs, as well as offer comments and criticisms of the application so the developers can make changes before widespread public release.

Any developers may post beta testing notices here whether their apps are hosted by PortableApps.com or not. But these should be legitimate beta tests only, not an attempt to drive traffic to your own site.

Changes to make GnuCashPortable version 2.4.10 work

Kim_Wood - February 9, 2012 - 5:57am

Dear PortableApps.com,

The following changes to the USBKEY\PortableApps\GnuCashPortable\App\AppInfo\Launcher\GnuCashPortable.ini file appear to be the only changes required to allow GnuCash 2.4.10 function as a portable app...

[Environment]
AQBANKING_VERSION=33
GUILE_VERSION=1.8
GWENHYWFAR_VERSION=60

No further changes required other than replacing the GnuCash 2.4.8 application directory with the 2.4.10 version.

Can someone validate these changes please?

Regards,

Kim Wood
