AbiWordPortable 2.8.1 run problem

Submitted by bloatfoe on October 30, 2009 - 10:03am

Upon first install AW 2.8.1 on Win XP would not execute. I ran it (the actual program in \bin directory -- not the portable stub) through Dependency Walker and produced the error message:

Error: The Side-by-Side configuration information for "<path>\app\abiword\bin\ABIWORD.EXE" contains errors. This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem (14001).

Please update/fix installer

BuddhaChu's picture
Submitted by BuddhaChu on August 17, 2009 - 12:58pm

I installed the latest version of AbiWord Portable for the first time today and discovered it installs the help files for French and Polish even though I selected "English" during the installation. Additionally, a TON of system.profile-* files were installed in the AbiWordPortable\App\AbiSuite2\AbiWord directory for every language it supports. How about only installing the system-profile file that was selected during installation? (ex: system.profile-en)

Please update/fix the installer to only install the required files.

PDF to AbiWord to HTML

Submitted by sl23 on August 11, 2009 - 9:00am

Hi, this may be a strange request but I wish to add bookmarks to my ebooks and I think by converting from PDF to HTML the file becomes smaller??? Maybe this only happens in certain instances, I don't know, I'm no programmer.

Ultimately I'd like an exact copy of my PDF doc's edited to include bookmarks and images but as I can't find a free portable PDF editor I thought perhaps use HTML as an alternative.

Where's the thesaurus?

Submitted by JeffNeedle on June 13, 2009 - 1:43pm

According to the plug-in matrix, Abiword's thesaurus should be included in the Tools add-in module. I've installed it, but I can't find the thesaurus anywhere. It's not listed as being included in the install.

What am I doing wrong?

I'm on a WinXP system, SR2.

Thanks.

Locking Cells in a Table

Submitted by svonhoch on January 27, 2009 - 12:02pm

Is there a way to lock cells within a table to prevent them from being altered? This can be done in Word, but I can't see how it would be done in AbiWord. Thanks.

Adding a right click New Word Document to Vista

Submitted by Megafrog on January 20, 2009 - 2:11pm

Hi. I wanted to have a right-clickable "create new MS Word Document" feature from the Windows Explorer "New" menu in Vista64, and I like having the portable apps that I can just copy into place rather than having to install them. Apparently Vista only seems to allow registered programs to be selected for inclusion in its usual way of accessing the right click "new" menu. Is there any other answer than having to use software that's included in the registry? Thanks!
