Features

ScreenshotMonster 2, the latest edition in the series, is a nostalgic trip back to the days of the epic SNES RPGs. An iPhone version is also available.

In the forest the staff lies
Untouched for years
Unseen by eyes
Until one day
When fate behold
The staff enslaved a mortal soul
Burning towns and taking lives
Bringing sorrow
Forcing cries
A girl shall seek a captive friend
To bring the evil to an end

I wanted to thank qwertymodo for his original anaylsis of this. It's since been redone using the PortableApps.com Launcher in the current PA.c Format using the most recent release of Monster.

I'd just like to point out that on the page for this game it says the game is GPL but it is actually BSD licensed.

Thanks.

It was GPL from being copy pasted before.

Unfortunately when started from HDD it shows black screen only. What's more - it can be closed only from Task Manager. I don't think this is due to system requirements - on the screenshot it looks to ancient to need the Hi-Tech hardware.

Please post a bug report in the forums with complete details.

WinXP SP3, DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.00 GHz
504 MB RAM
Intel 82845G Graphics Controller (64MB)
DirectDraw and Direct3D - ON

Unfortunately I am not good enough to supply you with professional bug report - I am just a user not developer Sad

If I create a new debug build of the game, could you help me try to diagnose the problem (I'm the developer of Monster 2 BTW)? I would first just need you to backup some files, then copy some new ones in their place, run the game, and then send me the log. How does that sound?

Ok, great. Well you should first backup the .dlls and the .exe in Monster2Portable\App\Monster2\game. Then download the file from the link below, and extract it into the same directory, overwriting all files. Run the game, and then either 1) pastebin the output of allegro5.log (from the game directory also) and post the link here or 2) email it to me at trent2gamblin.ca. It's very hard doing remote debugging, so I may not be able to fix the problem... but I will give it a try if the log points anything helpful out. Thanks.

I don't know if it's important or not, but monster2.exe is visible in Task Manager as two separate processes with completely different CPU and memory usage: one with 0% CPU and about 120K memory, and secound with 56-99% CPU and about 1240-2130K of memory usage.
The third process Monster2Portable.exe is just 0% CPU and about 230K of memory.

BTW it would be useful to be able to add e.g. a screenshot to a post.

In hindsight it was not a good idea to name both of the executables monster2.exe. One of them, the one using 120K of memory is just a launcher/relauncher for when you make changes to configuration settings which require a restart. It will restart the game for you. The other monster2.exe is the game itself. Did you see my post above with the link to the files to use to overwrite your existing install?

I'm having the same issue (black screen, can only close via Task Manager). WinXPSP3 Dell Inspiron 1100 2.4 GHz Celeron 1 GB RAM
