For updates that just say they move to the next version, would just updating firefox regularly be the same as this update?

No. NEVER let the mozilla apps do their auto-update, it breaks the local install because it will set all local registry values to point to your portable version. This has been discussed numerous times already.

I know that, but I think this for a few reasons.

1. I don't have a regular version of firefox.
2. Under modifications Update Prompt - As updating the browser on a flash drive can be very slow, Firefox Portable asks you if you'd like to update rather than doing it automatically.

1. You may not have a local install of firefox, but if you do the update from a school or work PC, it will break the install there. If you do it on your home PC, without a local install, your system will then think Firefox is installed, it will show up in your Add/Remove programs and cause some other odd issues.

2. That was probably left in there from the older releases when the auto-updater actually worked correctly.

Your best bet would be to download this newest release and update that way. None of your profile or settings will be messed with.

2. Since we shouldn't the auto-update feature in FireFoxPortable, this feature ought to be disabled. I'll try to find the right place to request this in the forums. (I'm new at this.)

ZachHudock's picture

We can't disable it. Mozilla has trademarked names and logos for their programs, and in order to keep the Mozilla branding on it, there are some aspects of the base app that we can't change. In upcoming releases of the Mozilla apps, the updater will properly work again.

I'm having trouble with the plugins. None of my plugins are in the plugins folder and, I tried installing them from the addons site didn't work. They only work when I'm on the pc I installed them from. So, how can I get em to work?

Not all plugins will work. But please post this in the forums as this is a news story, and no one will see it here.

Hi, been a new user of Firefox Portable for about a month now, and it seems I can't click an URL link in Outlook to go to that URL in Firefox. Is that because it's portable? Any workarounds? Thanks.

ZachHudock's picture

Yes, clicking a URL in an email from a desktop-based mail client will open the link in whatever the system default is. The only way to make FirefoxPortable open these links would be to set it as the system default, which is NOT portable.

In the future, please post support questions in the support forums not as a comment on a news story.

don't post support questions into news threads.

Ill answer your question anyhow:
That only works if Firefox Portable is running. If it isn't, your standard browser will open. There is no way around that at the moment. This happens because its portable and setting the portable version as "standard" breaks portability so dont (that is just a friendly warning :)).

you're right. Depends on Outlook.

hello,

i have a problem with this new version!

a lot of addons don't work with this version!
(like infoRSS for exemple)

if i used 2.0.0.13 version
and make mozilla update ,
all is OK!

Regards
web5s

I updated FFP 2.0.0.14 over FFP 2.0.0.13 and all my Add-ons work fine.

Could you give another example, I don't use infoRSS
but do have about 20 Add-ons.
