Features

portable_firefox_small.pngMozilla Firefox is a fast, full-featured web browser that's easy to use. It has lots of great features including popup-blocking, tabbed-browsing, integrated search, improved privacy features, automatic updating and more. Plus, thanks to the PortableApps.com launcher bundled in the Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition, it leaves no personal information behind on the machine you run it on, so you can take your favorite browser along with all your favorite bookmarks and extensions with you wherever you go. New in This Release

In this release, Firefox has been updated to 3.0.1 (release notes), the launcher has improved startup speed when switching PCs, improved portablization of extensions and better handling of launcher INI settings. The installer has also been improved.

Reminder: Don't Auto-Update

We also wanted to remind everyone not to use the built in auto-updater with Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition due to an unfixed bug in the updater itself. As with all software in PortableApps.com Format, you can do an in-place upgrade (install the new version right over the old one) and all your data will be preserved. More here: Upgrading Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition and Bug 406335.

PortableApps.com Installer / PortableApps.com Format

Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition is packaged in a PortableApps.com Installer so it will automatically detect an existing PortableApps.com installation when your drive is plugged in. And it's in PortableApps.com Format, so it automatically works with the PortableApps.com Suite including the Menu and Backup Utility.

Download

Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition is available for immediate download from the Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition homepage. You can get the German release from the German homepage and the French, Italian, Japanese and Simplified Chinese releases from the Localization page. Get it today!

Comments

I would like to suggest/request making Firefox completely independent of the host computer - for example when using a public computer - by including a similar stand alone media player to take care of all audio/video tasks.

Not possible.

Due to our licensing agreements with Mozilla only a bare minimum of modifications it permitted in our distributed package.

And before anyone asks, again, yes including Add-on/extentions, plugins, themes, etc, would be considered a modification.

Things have got to get better, they can't get worse, or can they?

Firefox still does not have the "saving to note" functions which Opera has.
Also,it does not have the option of opening in a background tab when right-clicking, and instead automatically opens the new tab as the active one even when the open new link box is unchecked in Options.
Finally, is there a way to have alternative news providers besides the BBC in the Latest Headlines tab?

Tim Clark's picture

That is because this is Firefox, not Opera Blum
The requests you would like should be made to the Mozilla Firefox developers. We package FF to make it portable, that's all.

Delete the the BBC live bookmark and create a new one for the provider of your choice.

In the future things like this should be posted in the forums.

With Easy DragToGo, you can easily open a link either in a front tab or background tab. Also try Tab Clicking Options, both add-ons are available from the Firefox.com website.

What I like so much about FX, is that you will always find a way to customize your own FX! I truly believe that no browser or software should be "one size fits all".
